Diabetic Management
Managing your diabetes is
extremely important to your health. It is not our
intention on this website to handle your diabetic
management. You must always seek the advice of a
qualified medical professional.
We can only give some advice guidelines related to general
diabetic management. For your specific treatment and medication
you must seek the advice of your doctor.
Diabetes management consists of monitoring your blood glucose
levels, taking the correct medication, eating a healthy diet
and getting regular exercise.
Diabetes Testing
If you are at all concerned that you may be
diabetic consult your doctor or pharmacist for a blood glucose
test. If you have any of the following go for diabetes
testing:
Feeling hungry all of the time or loss of appetite, excessive
thirst and/or excessive urination. Unexplained weight loss
(usually in type 1 diabetes) or weight gain (more common in
type 2 diabetes.)
Diabetes Treatment
Diabetes can be managed with diet, exercise
and medication or a combination of all three.
Monitoring your sugar levels
|
|
Testing your blood sugar on a
regular basis is a very important part of
your diabetic management. You may need to
test your blood sugar several times a day
in order to keep it within your target
limits. Your doctor will help you to work
these limits out and will give you some
guidelines on how often to test.
You may have been provided with
a blood glucose monitor but if not why
not try the Freestyle Value Pack?
The value pack includes the monitor and
100 test strips. Even if you do have a
monitor it is always a good idea to have
a back up.

Exercise and Diabetes
If you are

or pharmacist for a blood glucose test. If you have any of the
following go for diabetes testing:
Feeling hungry all of the time or loss of appetite, excessive
thirst and/or excessive urination. Unexplained weight loss
(usually in type 1 diabetes) or weight gain (more common in

Exercise is a great way to help manage your
diabetes. It helps keep your heart healthy
and it aids insulin
absorption.

If you are looking for
something different in
the way of exercise,
why not try Tai Chi
for Diabetics?
|
Exercise needn't be strenuous. A walk in your favourite
environment or a cycle ride will be beneficial.
Try to think of ways to get exercise
without it feeling like exercise. Just a few minutes a day
working in your garden is great exercise.
If gardening doesn't appeal to you, or you don't have a
garden you could try walking to the shops. Or walk or cycle to
work or school rather than taking the bus or the car.
If you have a dog take him for a nice long
walk or play with him in the garden. Housework can also be a
good form of exercise if you really get stuck into it.
Caution Always check with your health
care professional before starting any new exercise routine and
never exercise if your urine tests positive for
ketones.
