Beef
pasties
Crust:
100g self raising
flour
¾ teaspoon (3.75ml)
salt
¼ cup (50g) plus 2 teaspoons
(10ml) vegetable
shortening
1 egg
Water.
Method:
Put flour and salt in the mixing
bowl. Cut in
the shortening. Beat
egg in a measuring cup and add water to
make up to ½ cup; then put this into the
flour and mix until it is well
moistened.
Portion the dough into 6 balls and on a
lightly floured board; roll them into
circles between wax paper. Set
aside.
Filling:
¾ pound coarsely ground beef
(raw)
¾ cup diced, raw
carrot
2 cups diced, raw
potato
¾ cup diced
celery
1 teaspoon (5ml)
salt
¼ teaspoon (1.25ml) black
pepper
2 tablespoons (30ml)
water.
Method:
Mix all filling ingredients thoroughly
and spoon on to the dough, wrap around
beef. Bake at
350oF (180oC) Gas mark 4 for up to 15
minutes or until the dough is golden
brown.
